BIRTH AND PERINEAL TEARING – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW!

Yikes, what a heading. let’s be clear from the beginning. I have not written that to scare you or to get your attention or some sort of click bate!

I have written that because it is the fear of this happening that I am hearing from my Birth Beat Mums over and over. And once they have completed Birth Beat and are educated that fear is removed ( well, greatly decreased. I think it is, and will always be a worry for Mummas).

I want to share this valuable knowledge with you all.

CAN I ACTUALLY PUSH A BABY OUT OF THAT HOLE?

The answer is yes! Your body is designed to stretch and the perineum gets more and more stretchy in your pregnancy. All in preparation for your birth.

I have written that because it is the fear of this happening that I am hearing from my Birth Beat Mums over and over. And once they have completed Birth Beat and are educated that fear is removed ( well, greatly decreased. I think it is, and will always be a worry for Mummas).

THE FACTS

What is the perineum? Okay, this is the bit of skin between your vagina and anus. Men and Women have a perineum.

I hope this is clear enough for you. * Warning if you are hitting up Google be sure to put female perineum in. I just saw enough male perineum to last me a lifetime ha ha!

Most first time Mums will have some sort of tear. But please note not all tears are the same. Some will be a graze or a 1st, 2nd or 3rd or 4th-degree tear. What I want to do is share with you what you can do to reduce your likelihood of tearing.

I recently spoke on Mums Grapevine Facebook page about just this and they collated it beautifully here below.

I am all about wanting to provide you with what you want to know in pregnancy and birth so if there is anything else you would like to know about. Pop it in the comments and I will do my best to deliver ( haha no pun intended ).
